An Invigorating Read

"Recipe for Romance" is a very interesting novel about a sous-chef (Kirsty) who is being undermined by her boss the head chef. Then she meets Reeve Stuart who has taken over management of the hotel where she works. Their interactions are tense and Reeve starts to enjoy seeing Kirsty get riled up. When she stands up for herself on numerous occasions he loves her attitude and spunk. For a while they have a rather combative chemistry. There is a lot of tension in the story, so much that this is a very invigorating read. It keeps you wondering what is going to happen next right up until the last page. I enjoyed the delicious descriptions of food and the chef theme seemed unique. I felt the characters were developed especially well. In particular the deviousness of the head chef Antoine was very apparent. Kirsty becomes a very likeable character, while it takes much longer for your heart to warm towards the executive Reeve. Sue Perkins is an expert at describing emotions and she keeps the story fairly innocent with just a little kissing here and there. Overall, I felt the story was not overly complex and just enough was told to keep it very entertaining throughout. There are enough twists and turns to make the story intriguing. ~The Rebecca Review
